Permanent Exhibits
The Chateau’s second floor is home to an array of displays highlighting themes, people and businesses of Kirkland Lake’s 100+ year history.
Displays currently include military history and contributions, communications, transportation, mining, geology, local businesses, a north eastern animal exhibit, and KLCVI (the former local high school), plus many other snippets of KL’s past.
Nancy’s Room
Nancy was the eldest of Harry Oakes’ five children. Her bedroom is the highlight of the Chateau due to its unique relief designs within the plastered walls.
These designs feature nursery rhymes, fairy tales, wildlife, geographical locations and toys—with each wall displaying a different theme. Along with the original furniture, Nancy’s room amazes guests of all ages.
